Cause of Death Revealed for 14-Year-Old Celeste Rivas as Homicide Investigation Moves Forward

The official cause of death for 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez has been revealed months after her remains were discovered, bringing a significant development in a case that has shocked Southern California and drawn national attention.

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Celeste died from “multiple penetrating injuries caused by object(s)”, a finding that confirms she was the victim of a violent homicide.

Authorities said the injuries are consistent with sharp-force trauma, and the manner of death has been officially ruled a homicide. The report was previously sealed during the investigation and only recently made public.

Celeste’s remains were discovered in September 2025 inside bags in the trunk of an abandoned Tesla in Los Angeles after authorities investigated reports of a foul odor. Due to the condition of the body, which showed significant decomposition, determining the exact cause of death had initially been delayed.

Toxicology findings indicated the presence of substances including alcohol and drugs, but officials said they were not considered a direct cause of death.

The case has led to murder charges against 21-year-old musician David Burke, known professionally as “D4vd,” who has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors allege he killed the teen and later attempted to conceal the crime.

Celeste, who had been reported missing prior to the discovery of her remains, is being remembered by her family as a vibrant and joyful young girl. Her parents have publicly called for justice as the legal proceedings continue.

The case remains ongoing, with a preliminary hearing expected in the coming months.
