Ex-Resource Officer Who Body Slammed An 11-Year Old Boy Charged, Another Student Comes Forward Accusing The Man Of Assault

Former North Carolina school resource officer Warren Durham, seen on video body slamming an 11-year-old boy, has been arrested and faced assault and child abuse charges after the State Bureau of Investigation finished its probe into the incident.

He was issued a $10,000 bond; he posted that and has since been released with an order to return to court on Feb. 3.

The assault took place on Dec. 12 and video footage of the incident surfaced on Thursday.

On Tuesday, District Attorney Mike Waters said “by the grace of God,” the 11-year-old boy was not seriously injured and had no fractures or broken bones. Waters said the extent of the injuries dictated that Vance Middle SRO Warren Durham could not be charged with a felony by North Carolina law.

While the family of the 6th grader wanted Durham to face stiffer felony charges, grandfather Pastor John Miles said that he forgives him.

According to ABC 6 News, another parent at the school said the same officer pushed her daughter into a locker.

“Took her to the emergency room,” Roslyn Wynn said. “She has a dislocated shoulder, on her left side. Everything where she was slammed against the locker – all of this is broke. This is like, dislocated. She has a sling on. She has a sprain in her neck.”

The 12-year old girl spoke with the news outlet regarding the alleged assault.

School district leaders said they are now investigating that incident too.

The maximum sentence Durham will face for the previous incident is 120 days in jail, the prosecutor said.

There has been no statements from Durham at this time.
