A missing 21-year-old Black man has been found dead in a Georgia park after he was discovered hanging from a tree, sparking grief, controversy, and calls for answers from his family and community.
Kyle Bassinga, an Atlanta-area resident, had been reported missing on February 15, 2026. After several days of searching, his body was discovered on February 18 in a wooded area of Fair Oaks Park in Marietta, Georgia.
Discovery in Fair Oaks Park
Authorities responded to a 911 call reporting a body at the park, located in Cobb County, and confirmed that Bassinga had been found hanging from a tree. Investigators quickly secured the scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Police said witnesses previously saw Bassinga walking alone into the wooded area on February 14, just days before his body was found. Surveillance footage and witness accounts reportedly showed no signs that anyone else accompanied him into the area.
Police Say No Evidence of Foul Play
Cobb County police have stated that, based on the evidence collected so far, there are no indications of foul play. Officials said detectives reviewed surveillance footage, phone records, and physical evidence, but found nothing suggesting another person was involved.
