9-Year Old Girl In Medically Induced Coma After Road Rage Shooting

A 9-year old girl, who was traveling with her family to the grocery store, was shot in the head after an apparent road rage shooting in Houston.

The violent act began when a driver in a white GMC Denali pickup truck cut off the girl’s family several times on the freeway Tuesday night.

Houston police said around 9:10 p.m., the truck then pulled up behind the family’s vehicle and fired shots, hitting 9-year old Ashanti Grant. The family says Ashanti was shot in the head.

Her mother, father, and two brothers were all in the vehicle during the shooting. They were not injured.

Elanie Williams, Ashanti’s grandmother said that the surgeons removed one bullet from her head, and then placed Ashanti in a medically induced coma in hopes that the brain swelling will go down.

“I feel angry that this happened [and] sad,” Williams said. “But I’m hopeful and I have faith.”

No arrests have been made at this time but authorities are asking the public for help. The suspect driving the white pickup truck also had a passenger.

There is a $30,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. If anyone has any information regarding this case, please call the Houston Police Department at 713-308-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

The family has set a GoFundMe page with a $100,000 goal to help cover medical expenses. As of Thursday night, they’ve raised over $11,000.
