A mass shooting occurred at a bank in Downtown Louisville leaving 5 people dead and 8 injured.
According to NBC News, officers responded to a call at Old National Bank around 8:30 AM when they ultimately encountered gunshots. The shooter, identified as 25-year-old Connor Sturgeon, was killed shortly after responding officers exchanged gunfire with him.
Gov Andy Beshear spoke on the tragic situation and informed the public that two of the dead and one of the wounded individuals were friends of his.
According to CNN, the victims deceased were identified as Joshua Barrick, 40; Juliana Farmer, 45; Tommy Elliott, 63; and James Tutt, 64, and 57-year-old Deana Eckert.

Those wounded were taken to the University of Louisville Hospital. Reports say that two of those injured are officers.
The fast response of officers prevented more deaths and injuries, Louisville police said.
“It is clear from the officers’ response that they absolutely saved peoples’ lives,” Humphrey said. “This was a tragic event but it was the heroic response of officers that made sure that no more people were more seriously injured than what happened.”
It is unsure if there was a security guard present at the time of the shooting.
LMPD said the suspected shooter acted alone and was currently employed at the bank.
A source says that Sturgeon was employed at the bank for more than a year and was recently notified that he was being terminated. Sturgeon wrote a note to his parents and a friend indicating that he would open fire in the bank, the source said. Additionally, he live-streamed the shooting and this has since been taken down.
Louisville’s Interim Police Chief, Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroe, held a press conference discussing the condition of one of the officers injured. She identified him as 26-year-old, Nickolas Wilt, that was recently sworn in on March 31st. Unfortunately, he suffered from a gunshot wound to the head and had emergency surgery. He is currently in critical condition according to reports.
