21-Year Old Florida Man Gets 10 Days In Jail After Oversleeping For Jury Duty
“I had to tell myself, I am not a criminal,” Deandre Somerville said. “Those 10 days were long and traumatic days.”
The 21-year old was selected to serve on a civil jury in August. But when he overslept for the trial, he had to spend 10 days in jail — despite not having a criminal record.
Here’s more of the story.
To punish him, a Florida judge, after chewing him out in court, sentenced him to 10 days in jail and a year of probation, made him pay a fine, and ordered him to serve 150 hours of community service.
Clearly this was a little too harsh, especially for someone that isn’t familar with the judicial system.
