1 Dead, 5 Injured, 5 in Custody After Shooting at Louisiana Mall

A shooting inside the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge has left one person dead and at least five others injured, with five suspects now in custody, according to authorities.

Police say the gunfire erupted Thursday afternoon in the mall’s food court following an argument between two groups that escalated into an exchange of gunfire.

Officials confirmed that a 17-year-old was among those killed, while multiple victims were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Some of the injured required surgery, and authorities said several victims were innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire.

Initial reports indicated a higher number of people hurt, with early estimates suggesting up to 10 injuries before officials clarified the count.

Baton Rouge police have taken five individuals into custody in connection with the shooting. Investigators believe the incident was targeted rather than random, and officials say there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Witnesses described chaotic scenes as shoppers fled the area, hid in stores, or dropped to the ground as shots rang out. Law enforcement quickly secured the mall, with a heavy police presence, including tactical units and helicopters, responding to the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and are asking anyone with information or video evidence to come forward.

This remains a developing story.
