Whoopi Goldberg Suspended From ‘The View’ For Her Holocaust Remarks
ABC News has suspended The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg for 2 weeks following the Holocaust remarks she’s already apologized for.
Whoopi received backlash from viewers after she said on the Monday episode that the “Holocaust wasn’t about race.” Following the show, she apologized in a statement and cleared up the misunderstanding.
In a statement, ABC News president Kim Godwin bluntly described Goldberg’s comments about the Holocaust, which were made on “The View” Monday, as “wrong and hurtful.”
“While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments,” Godwin said. “The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities.”
Although some thought this punishment wasn’t enough, many people are in support of Whoopi and knew exactly what she was trying to say.
Reports say that even The View co-hosts Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro do not agree with the suspension.
Ana, a regular guest host who was on Monday’s broadcast, later told The Daily Beast how sad she was about the entire saga.
“I love Whoopi Goldberg. I love The View,” she said on Tuesday evening. “This was an incredibly unfortunate incident. Whoopi is a lifelong ally to the Jewish community. She is not an antisemite. Period. I am sad. And I have nothing else to say.”
Whoopi hasn’t made any other statements since her apology on Jan. 31.
