Viewers Warn Tik Tok Users About Red Filter Removal On Silhouette Challenge

silhouette challenge warning

By now you’ve probably heard of the new Tik Tok Silhouette Challenge that has been taking over social media. Well, in case you have been living under a rock, the viral challenge shows Tik Tok users dancing in little to no clothing with a red filter on to mask the actual view.

A community of viewers are now warning creators to be careful because the red filter can be removed and expose them.

The Silhouette Challenge song uses an edit of  Pauil Anka‘s“Put Your Head on My Shoulder” and Doja Cat‘s “Streets” concocted by Giulia Di Nicolantonio.

Participants in the trend (mostly women) dance to the remix of these songs in front of the camera fully clothed, then it transitions to the red filter — showing off the silhouette of their bodies.

The trend started as a fun way to empower people by showing off their sexy side. A good challenge leading up to Valentine’s Day. Even comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish took part in the fun, with rapper Common making a special appearance.

As the challenge became more popular, creepy hackers begin removing the red filter. Some even took it a step further by creating YouTube videos, showing viewers how to remove it as well.

Many creators have taken to TikTok to warn others who decide to participate in the challenge. They urged them to pay special attention to what they’re wearing.

Some on social media suggests if creators post nude videos, even with a filter, they warrant the chance of exposure.

Danielle Citron, a professor of law at Boston University Law School, disagrees. She says that participants in the challenge, who have been violated in such fashion, could have legal recourse.

Citron tells Rolling Stone. “We have a reasonable expectation that photos we post won’t be undressed and images and identities used to strip us…..when I go out with a short skirt, is that permission to look up my skirt with a drone?”

On YouTube, the tutorial videos do appear to violate the platform’s community guidelines against sexual content. So far, the platform hasn’t taken any steps to remove these videos.

In the meantime, be careful what you post.
