Lauderdale Lakes, Fla. — Social media was rocked by the news that popular TikTok creator Girlalala, real name Maurice Harrison, was fatally shot on November 14, 2025. Her longtime boyfriend, Shanoyd Whyte Jr., has since been arrested and charged with first-degree murder with a firearm, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
A Rising Star Gone Too Soon
Maurice Harrison, who went by Girlalala online, had built a large following on TikTok—reportedly more than 235,000 followers—and tens of thousands more on Instagram. Known for her bold style and vivid wigs, she was also a hairstylist in Pompano Beach, Florida.
Harrison was openly transgender, and within her community, she was celebrated not just for her creativity but also for her warm energy.
The Deadly Confrontation
According to arrest documents, Harrison and Whyte Jr., 25, were inside his vehicle in Lauderdale Lakes when a verbal argument turned physical. Whyte later told investigators that Harrison “pulled his hair,” though he declined to give a full account of how the shooting began.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows Whyte stepping out of the car holding a gun, then returning and placing Harrison back into the vehicle. Moments later, Whyte called 911, urging dispatchers to “hurry up”—police say he remained at the scene as deputies arrived.
When officers entered the car, they found Harrison slumped in the front passenger seat with multiple gunshot wounds. A firearm and two 9 mm shell casings were recovered from the scene. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors later pronounced her dead.
Arrest and Aftermath
Whyte Jr. was arrested on the scene and remains jailed without bond. He has been formally charged with first-degree murder with a firearm.
In the wake of the tragedy, fans and community members have shared heartbreak, raising broader questions about domestic violence—especially within marginalized groups.
A GoFundMe launched to help cover Harrison’s funeral expenses quickly surpassed its goal, raising more than $28,000. Notably, rapper JT contributed $5,000 and paid tribute, calling on her followers to support the protection of Black and transgender women.
Community Reaction and Larger Implications
Harrison’s death has struck a chord across social media, with many fans mourning her vibrant personality—and calling for justice. Several resurrected videos showed signs of a troubled relationship: in one clip, Harrison appears with a cut under her eye and says she and Whyte “always fight.”
Advocates and supporters have underscored how this case is not just a tragedy, but a reflection of deeper issues: violence against transgender individuals, intimate partner violence, and the vulnerability of marginalized creators.
The tragic death of Girlalala has left a community in mourning and spotlighted serious questions about safety, gender-based violence, and the real-world risks that social media creators may face.
