Teen Rapper, Tyrese Simmons, Who Was Accused Of Killing A 9 Year Old Girl, Turns Himself In
A Dallas rapper, Tyrese Simmons, who was accused of killing a 9 year old girl, turns himself in.
The angry rapper who wanted to get revenge on other rappers over a “diss track”, ended up killing a young girl after targeting the wrong home.
The deceased little girl was identified as Brandoniya Bennett.
It was reported that the child was simply sitting on the coach in her living room when a bullett struck her in the head by the 19 year old rapper.
Dallas News Reports:
The man who is accused of killing a 9-year-old girl was in custody Thursday evening, a day after the fatal shooting left her neighborhood in shock and clergy members and community activists calling for an end to violence.
Tyrese Simmons, 19, turned himself in at Lew Sterrett Jail in connection with the death of Brandoniya Bennett at her home in the Roseland Townhomes in the 3500 block of Munger Avenue in Old East Dallas. He has been charged with capital murder, with bail set at $500,000.
Brandoniya had been planning to begin school next week. Instead, her family will be laying her to rest, the latest victim of a summer crime wave.
“When one family hurts, we all hurt. The whole community hurts,” said Maurice Ash, an activist with children of his own. “The saddest thing is that my daughter will never be able to get to know this young girl. This will never happen because her life was cut down, cut short because of senseless gun violence.”
At a news conference Thursday afternoon, police said Simmons had been feuding with a fellow rapper who had “dissed” him in a song.
Police believe Simmons had the wrong address for the intended target of the shooting and mistakenly killed Brandoniya.
“She was sitting in her house,” Dallas police Maj. Danny Williams said. “She felt safe.”
He grew emotional as he described how officers carried Brandoniya into a squad car, trying to get her to the hospital quickly, before Dallas Fire-Rescue met them and transported her, Williams said.
“She would have started school,” the major said. “She got her nails done yesterday.”
The girl’s family declined to comment Thursday, but activists spoke near the townhomes, saying her relatives were suffering. A GoFundMecampaign was created to raise money for the family.
“This family is filled with so many emotions,” said Dominique Alexander of Next Generation Action Network. “It’s hard for them to process what’s going on.”
Simmons has a pending misdemeanor assault case, court and police records show. He was arrested June 1, 2018, after he punched a man in the face, causing him to collapse and lose consciousness, according to an affidavit.
Police said the assault occurred at 2400 North Washington Ave., only blocks from where Brandoniya was killed.
His bail was set at $1,500 on the assault charge, and he was prohibited from possessing a deadly weapon as a condition of his bond, according to court records.
This is such a horrible thing that happened to this innocent little girl. S0mething needs to happen with these gun laws because people are using guns carelessly more each day. Her life was taken away by a bullet that had nothing to do with her. Let us please keep this family in our prayers as they go through this tragedy. Let us hope Bradoniya will receive the justice she deserves. Here is a GoFundMe to help the family with funeral costs and arrangements.
And now you’re officially in the KNOW!
