Teen Gets 3 Years In Prison for Throwing Acid on 17-Year-Old Girl During Fight

WICHITA, Kan. — A Wichita teen has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison for her role in a violent assault that left another teenager with severe chemical burns.

Ye’Kira Hollins, now 19, was sentenced on Thursday, June 13, to 34 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release for aggravated battery. The sentence was handed down by Sedgwick County District Judge Tyler Roush.

The charges stem from a disturbing incident in May 2024, when Hollins and two others were involved in a fight near the 400 block of North Dodge Street. During the altercation, 18-year-old Passion Turner was doused with acid, resulting in second-degree burns to her face and neck.

Authorities say the corrosive substance was so potent it burned the hand of a Wichita police officer who arrived at the scene and picked up a wig that had been soaked in the chemical.

Two other suspects, identified as Tayronnia West and a 16-year-old girl, were also charged in connection with the attack and are awaiting the outcomes of their cases.

Turner’s injuries have sparked outrage in the community and renewed concern over the increasing use of dangerous chemicals in personal disputes.

Hollins was convicted in May following a jury trial. She will serve her sentence in a Kansas correctional facility and will remain under court supervision for two years after her release.

It remains unclear whether Turner plans to pursue additional civil action against those involved.
