SWV Biopic In The Works With Lifetime
SWV’s biopic has finally been picked up by a network!
According to The Jasmine Brand, a source said the 90s group life story is currently being written into a script and will be aired on Lifetime.
There have been reports that the ladies have been shopping around different networks since 2017. It looks like they have made their decision.
Back in 2019, lead singer Cheryl ‘Coko’ Gamble made it clear that she wanted musical artist Sevyn Streeter to play her in the biopic.
Although this is Coko’s hopes, a cast list hasn’t been revealed nor probably hasn’t been selected yet.
SWV (an abbreviation for Sisters With Voices) was formed by Coko, Tamara “Taj” Johnson and Leanne “Lelee” Lyons (with Lelee and Coko as founding members). After sending out demo tapes and being invited to sing live in front of RCA executives, SWV was signed to an eight-album record deal.
SWV was one of the most notable R&B groups in the 90s and put out major hits such as: “Right Here,” “I’m So Into You,” and “Weak.”
This year will be the 20th anniversary of their debut album It’s About Time, which sold over 2 million copies.
Lifetime has been responsible for putting out other musical biopics such as Whitney, Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel, which was a big hit.
We’re hoping that SWV’s biopic will have the same level of success.
