Snapchat Will No Longer Promote Donald Trump’s Account In Discover
In the wake of Trumps controversial comments, Snapchat has decide to no longer promote Trump’s account. His account remains public but, his supporters must search for his account to find content from him.
Snapchat parent company SNAP made a statement obtained by USA TODAY, “We will not amplify voices who incite racial violence and injustice by giving them free promotion on Discover,” SNAP said in its statement. “Racial violence and injustice have no place in our society and we stand together with all who seek peace, love, equality, and justice in America.”
On Sunday employees received a message from the SNAP CEO Evan Speigel which stayed, “simply cannot promote accounts in America that are linked to people who incite racial violence, whether they do so on or off our platform.”
SNAP is not the only social media platform who has made the Decision to sensor the presidents comments.
Twitter flagged a post last week the read, “I know many people are upset that we’ve left the President’s posts up, but our position is that we should enable as much expression as possible unless it will cause imminent risk of specific harms or dangers spelled out in clear policies,” from Trump.
Mark Zuckerberg decided to leave the same comment about protesters on Facebook despite employees unease.
He openly acknowledged that he disagree with the comment but believes the comment should remain up. “I know many people are upset that we’ve left the President’s posts up, but our position is that we should enable as much expression as possible unless it will cause imminent risk of specific harms or dangers spelled out in clear policies,” Zuckerberg said.
