SMH Moment: Felicity Huffman Gets 14 Days In Prison, Tanya McDowell Gets 5 Years
Felicity Huffman was sentenced to 14 days in jail on Friday for her role in the college admissions cheating scandal.
The famous television actress has admitted to paying $15,000 in an effort to boost her eldest daughter’s SAT score.
“I can only say I’m so sorry, Sofia. I was frightened and stupid. I now see all the things I knew was wrong. I realize now that love and truth must go hand in hand. I take full responsibility for my actions,” she said.
Many were not happy with this sentencing, including Judge Greg Mathis.
He immediately went to Instagram to compare two cases and asks ‘Why the big difference?’
In 2011, Tanya McDowell, a homeless Bridgeport, CT mom, was arrested and charged with first-degree larceny for enrolling her then 6-year-old son Andrew in a school in neighboring Norwalk.
The 34-year old mom at the time said she and her son were able to sleep at an apartment in Bridgeport at night, but during the day had to leave, and lived in her van or at shelters.
McDowell allegedly also had prior drug charges so this could be one of the reasons why she received a longer sentence than Felicity.
A police officer that was working on her case said, “I think she was just dealing drugs to support herself.”
Regardless, the crime that Felicity was a part of is reported to be the largest college scheme in history and she only receives 14 days?
