Ryan Coogler, the filmmaker behind Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has confirmed that he is actively working on a third Black Panther film. Speaking at Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles event, Coogler responded to a question about his next move, saying, “We’re working on it hard … Yeah, it’s the next movie.”
In a major development, Coogler revealed that he has written a role specifically for acting legend Denzel Washington, confirming long-held rumors of his involvement. On the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast with Carmelo Anthony, Coogler said, “Denzel is family at this point … I think he’s the greatest living actor … I’ve been talking to him about this for a long time.”
Washington previously hinted at his participation back in 2024, during a press appearance in Australia, stating that Coogler was “writing a part for me in the next Black Panther.” While Coogler has not disclosed any plot details or Washington’s character, his public praise for Washington underlines how significant the casting is to him personally and creatively.
Coogler’s confirmation marks a clear signal of Marvel’s commitment to continuing the Black Panther saga under his creative leadership. Fans will be watching closely as more details — including the story direction and additional cast — begin to emerge.
