“Ride Along 3” Back in the Works as Ice Cube and Kevin Hart Eye Reunion

The long-awaited third installment of the Ride Along franchise is officially back in development, signaling a potential reunion for comedy stars Ice Cube and Kevin Hart.

According to multiple reports, Ride Along 3 remains in the works at Universal Pictures, with plans to continue the popular buddy-cop storyline that first captivated audiences in 2014. The original film and its 2016 sequel collectively grossed nearly $280 million worldwide, driven largely by the comedic chemistry between its two leads.

While no official release date has been announced, the project is still in the development phase, with a script reportedly being refined by returning writers. Franchise director Tim Story is also expected to return, continuing his role behind the camera after helming the first two films.

Despite the excitement, production has faced repeated delays. One of the biggest challenges has been coordinating the schedules of Hart and Cube, both of whom remain in high demand across film and television. Industry setbacks, including the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, have also slowed progress.

In past interviews, Ice Cube confirmed that discussions are ongoing but emphasized that the team is focused on getting the story right rather than rushing into production. The goal, he noted, is to create a sequel that stands on its own and adds something fresh to the franchise.

Ride Along 3 is expected to continue the story of mismatched partners Ben Barber and James Payton, whose unlikely partnership has become a fan-favorite in modern comedy.

For now, fans will have to wait a little longer, but with key players still committed, the next chapter of the franchise appears to be inching closer to reality.
