Authorities are investigating a burglary at the Los Angeles residence of Grammy-nominated R&B singer and songwriter Durrell “Tank” Babbs, better known simply as Tank. The break-in occurred early Friday morning, and surveillance footage captured the suspects as they fled the scene, law enforcement sources tell reporters.
According to authorities, the alarm monitoring company alerted Los Angeles police to suspicious activity at Tank’s home at approximately 4 a.m. local time. By the time officers arrived, the three suspects — each wearing hooded sweatshirts — had already left the property.
Surveillance video released by law enforcement shows the trio walking around the property before hastily leaving. While the suspects did manage to take at least one watch from the home, officers say most of the items inside the residence appeared untouched.
Tank, 51, is widely known for chart-topping hits including “Maybe I Deserve,” “Please Don’t Go” and “When We,” and has been a fixture in contemporary R&B for more than two decades. Outside of music, he has also appeared in film and television projects and recently made his Broadway debut.
At this time, the Los Angeles Police Department has not announced any arrests, and it is unclear whether the suspects are connected to other burglaries in the area. Police are reviewing the surveillance footage and canvassing for additional evidence and witnesses.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and Tank has not publicly commented on the break-in. Representatives for the singer did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the burglary to contact the LAPD Major Crimes Division.
