Obamas’ Production Company Backs Broadway Revival of Proof

Former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama are expanding their storytelling empire into the world of theater.

The couple’s media company, Higher Ground Productions, has officially joined the producing team behind the upcoming Broadway revival of the Pulitzer Prize–winning play Proof. The project marks the company’s first major move into Broadway production after years of success in film, television, and podcasting.

Originally written by David Auburn, Proof first premiered on Broadway in 2000 and went on to win both the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play. The powerful story follows Catherine, the daughter of a brilliant but troubled mathematician, as she struggles with grief, genius, and questions about her own identity after her father’s death.

The new revival is already drawing buzz thanks to its star-studded cast. Emmy-winning actress Ayo Edebiri and acclaimed actor Don Cheadle are set to make their Broadway debuts in the production. They’ll be joined by Samira Wiley and Jin Ha.

The play will be directed by Tony Award winner Thomas Kail, who previously helmed the blockbuster musical Hamilton. Performances are expected to take place at the historic Booth Theatre in New York.

Since launching Higher Ground in 2018, the Obamas have focused on telling impactful and diverse stories. Their projects have included the Oscar-winning documentary American Factory, as well as several Emmy-winning productions across streaming platforms.

With their latest move into Broadway, the Obamas continue to broaden their creative reach—bringing their signature focus on meaningful storytelling to one of the world’s most celebrated theater stages.

If the early buzz is any indication, this revival of Proof could be one of the most talked-about productions on Broadway next season. 🎭✨
