In a heartfelt and candid return to the spotlight, R&B icon Montell Jordan disclosed on The Today Show that nearly a year after undergoing a radical prostatectomy, the cancer has unfortunately resurfaced.
A Startling Diagnosis, and a Second Wind
Jordan, 56, initially faced an aggressive Stage 2 prostate cancer diagnosis in early 2024, detected thanks to a PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) test—a reminder of how early screening can save lives. He underwent surgery, and doctors believed they had removed the cancer with clear margins.
However, “close to a year post-prostatectomy,” follow-up imaging revealed that cancer had spread to his lymph nodes. Despite this development, Jordan’s message remains rooted in hope and action.
Treatment Ahead — A Strategic Pause with Purpose
To combat the return, Jordan will embark on a seven-and-a-half-week course of targeted radiation therapy aimed specifically at the affected lymph nodes. He will also undergo hormone-blocking treatment to halt the cancer’s progression. “It is a seven-and-a-half week interruption of life to make sure that I have a longer life,” he stated.
More Than a Diagnosis — A Platform for Awareness
Jordan is using this journey as a catalyst for broader awareness—even beyond his personal health battle:
Removing the stigma around men’s health and prostate cancer, especially among Black men, where stigma and cultural taboos often hinder early screening. “It’s OK to cry… doing nothing is not an option,” he urged.
Partnering with ZERO Prostate Cancer, Jordan has taken on the role of Global Ambassador to help drive education, screenings, and access to care—particularly focused on communities with elevated risks.
Launching an upcoming documentary, Sustain, Jordan invites others into his story—“I’m trying to give a template for people that get diagnosed with this to … know they have options available to them.” The film is slated to debut in 2026.
