Martha Levert, Mother of R&B Singers Sean And Gerald Levert, Has Passed Away
Heaven has gained another angel from the Levert family. Martha Levert — mother of the late R&B singers Sean and Gerald Levert — passed away Thursday morning. The cause of death hasn’t been revealed but family and friends have confirmed her death.
Gerald’s daughter Carlysia Levert shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram.
Martha shared two sons, Gerald and Sean, with ex-husband Eddie Levert of The O’Jays. Their sons then went on to start their own group, LeVert, with group member Marc Gordon where they made hits like: “(Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop) Goes My Mind” and “Casanova.”
Marc expressed his hurt on the passing of Martha and said that she was like his second mom.
After years as a successful group, Gerald went on to have an even more successful solo career with hits including: “Baby I’m Ready,” “Mr. Too Damn Good,” “In My Songs,” and “Baby Hold On To Me” featuring his father Eddie Levert.
Martha Levert had to endure a couple of heartbreaks in her lifetime. Her oldest son Gerald passed away November 10, 2006 in an accidental death from a fatal combination of several prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Gerald was 40-years old at the time of his death.
Almost 2 years later, Martha’s younger son Sean died while he was in jail for child support. It was determined that he died from complications of Sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease that affects multiple organs in the body.
The family then filed a lawsuit against Cuyahoga County after finding out jail staff took his medication away from him and failed to give him a single pill during the six days he was there. He was also denied a doctor. No criminal charges were brought on the staff but Sean’s wife did receive a settlement of $4 million. He was 39 at the time of his death.
Now, Martha will be joined with her loving sons in heaven. Thank you, Martha for giving birth and raising such talented men that graced us with their amazing voices and timeless songs.

Was such a beautiful lady on the outside as well as the inside ..I worked at the bank with her she showed so much for her daughter when she was younger…Not connecting her with her famous sons until I was moving to ATL…the other young man in the group picked her up in a Black BMW and took me home..we talked may years while in the ATL..God Bless To The Family and Friends My Sincere Condolences…
