Legendary Actor Blair Underwood Joins Cast of Doc

Veteran actor Blair Underwood  is scrubbing in for a major new role on Fox’s hit medical drama Doc. The acclaimed performer will debut as the brilliant and highly confident trauma and cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Ben Grant during the show’s two-hour Season 2 finale on April 14, 2026, before becoming a full-time cast member in Season 3.

Underwood’s character, Dr. Ben Grant, is described as a “once-in-a-generation talent” whose ego is just as formidable as his surgical skills. A world-class trauma and cardiothoracic surgeon, Grant is known for commanding the operating room and rarely being outmatched intellectually.

That dynamic will be tested when he comes face-to-face with the show’s lead character, Dr. Amy Larsen, played by Molly Parker. The two brilliant doctors are expected to clash almost immediately, creating intense professional friction as their competing approaches to medicine collide at Westside Medical.

Inspired by a true story and based on an Italian format, Doc follows Dr. Amy Larsen as she rebuilds her life and career after a devastating car accident erases eight years of her memory.

Underwood will join a Season 2 cast that includes Omar Metwally, Amirah Vann, Jon Ecker, Anya Banerjee, Patrick Walker, Charlotte Fountain-Jardim, and Felicity Huffman, with recurring appearances from Scott Wolf.

According to Deadline, Underwood is stepping in following Huffman’s year-long arc in Season 2. His deal is believed to cover one season, with the character expected to play a major role in the show’s upcoming 22-episode third season.

With an impressive career spanning decades, Underwood is known for standout roles in L.A. Law, Set It Off, Just Cause, When They See Us, and Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker.

Fans will get their first look at Dr. Ben Grant when Underwood makes his debut in the two-hour Season 2 finale of Doc on April 14.

One thing is certain — Westside Medical is about to get a lot more intense. 🩺🔥
