Grandson Charged in Grandmother’s Killing After Alleged Argument Over Allowance Money

A Texas man is facing a murder charge after authorities say he fatally shot his grandmother following a dispute over allowance money.

According to the Arlington Police Department, 21-year-old Rontrell Jackson was arrested in connection with the death of his 68-year-old grandmother, whose identity has not yet been publicly released.

Officers responded to an apartment complex in Arlington, Texas, on March 20 after a family member reported finding the woman unresponsive on her patio. When first responders arrived, they discovered she had been shot and pronounced her dead at the scene. A blanket had been placed over her body, officials said.

Investigators say the fatal incident followed a “heated argument” between Jackson and his grandmother, reportedly stemming from him losing his allowance money.

During questioning, Jackson allegedly admitted to shooting his grandmother earlier that morning inside the apartment before dragging her body outside onto the patio, according to police.

Authorities also recovered a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting from inside the residence.

Jackson was taken into custody and initially booked into the Arlington City Jail before being transferred to the Tarrant County Jail, where he is being held on a $750,000 bond.

Neighbors expressed shock over the circumstances of the case, with one resident saying it was difficult to comprehend a life lost over a dispute involving money.

The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to gather details surrounding the deadly confrontation.
