Former NFL Player, Stanley Wilson Jr., Dies After Collapsing At A Los Angeles Mental Health Hospital
Former NFL player Stanley Wilson Jr., 40, reportedly died at a Los Angeles mental health hospital, according to TMZ. Wilson is a former player for the Detroit Lions and the son of ex-Bengals running back Stanley Wilson Sr.
Reports state that Wilson was first placed in police custody in August 2022 due to allegedly breaking into a Hollywood Hills home. He was also accused of vandalizing the home and taking a bath in an outdoor water fountain.
Upon conviction, Wilson was declared incompetent to stand trial. He was then transferred to Metropolitan State Hospital in Los Angeles on Feb. 1.
TMZ reports that Wilson collapsed and died at the psychiatric facility shortly after his arrival. Sources say that foul play is not suspected and autopsy results are pending toxicology.
Wilson Jr. was drafted by the Lions in the third round at the 2005 NFL draft. He went on to play three seasons with the team until he suffered an injury at the beginning of the 2008 season. Wilson Jr. played in 32 games in his pro football career, logging eight pass breakups, a forced fumble, and 87 total tackles.
It is unclear if Wilson is survived by a spouse or children.
