Family Sues For $50 Million After Young Mom Dies In Routine Cyst Draining Procedure
The family of a Bronx mom who died at Lincoln Hospital following a routine procedure to drain a cyst from her thigh is going to sue the medical center for $50 million.
Rosemary Abreu, 27, went in to Lincoln for the surgery on Sept. 20. At some point, she suffered cardiac arrest, slipped into a coma and then died on Sept. 21, according to her relatives and records.
According to the NY Daily News, a notice of claim to be filed Friday with the city alleges the hospital failed to properly administer anesthesia and failed to monitor her during and after surgery, among a host of other alleged errors.
Abreu’s mother Dorah Restituyo, 50, said her daughter went into the hospital a happy person. “She was moving into a new apartment,” said Restituyo, who works in a bakery. “Right before the operation, she was asking about her kids. She’s went in to the hospital to fix her body not to die.”
Here’s more from ABC News NY:
Abreu, a paraprofessional for the Department of Education, left two devastated daughters, Katelyn, 9 and Luna, 2. “I feel sad, I miss her a lot,” Katelyn told the Daily News.
Family lawyer Sanford Rubenstein said Rosemary’s death shouldn’t have happened and he is absolutely right.
Hopefully the family receive justice for Rosemary and closure for themselves.
The family held a funeral two weeks ago, but they are still waiting for the autopsy results.
Rest in peace, Rosemary.
