SAN DIEGO, CA — “Family Matters” alum Darius McCrary is in serious legal trouble again — the actor was arrested near the U.S.–Mexico border and is currently behind bars in San Diego on a felony warrant, TMZ has learned. 👀
Law enforcement sources tell us the 48-year-old actor — best known as Eddie Winslow from the hit ’90s sitcom — was picked up by Border Patrol agents on Sunday, October 5, after a fugitive warrant popped up in the system. The warrant reportedly stems from Michigan, tied to a missed court date over unpaid child support.
McCrary was booked into jail without bail, and court records show he’s expected to face a judge on October 15.
THE BACKSTORY
According to People and EW, McCrary’s rep claims this was all one big misunderstanding — saying Darius never got the court notice because it was sent to an old P.O. box. His team also says he’s been sick with COVID recently and didn’t know a warrant had been issued.
Adding another twist, his rep says Darius wasn’t down by the border trying to flee — he was actually in Tijuana working with a local developer on a housing project for the homeless.
Still, the whole thing looks bad … especially since this isn’t the first time McCrary’s been in hot water over unpaid support. Court docs show previous cases in 2015 and 2023 for the same issue.
THE EDDIE WINSLOW ERA
Fans know McCrary as the wisecracking big brother Eddie Winslow from Family Matters — the hit sitcom that ran from 1989 to 1998. Since then, he’s popped up in shows like The Young and the Restless, The Leftovers, and even voiced Jazz in Transformers.
But in recent years, the actor’s off-screen life has been way messier than his sitcom days — he’s battled financial issues, divorce drama, and now this latest arrest.
WHAT’S NEXT
For now, Darius is sitting in a San Diego jail, waiting to find out if he’ll be extradited back to Michigan to face the charge. His rep insists he’s “not a fugitive” and plans to cooperate fully once the court date rolls around.
Until then … looks like Eddie Winslow’s got some serious explaining to do. 😬
