NFL Hall of Famer and University of Colorado head football coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders has been declared cancer-free following a successful surgery to remove a tumor from his bladder. The 57-year-old coach underwent a complex procedure in May that required the removal of his bladder and the reconstruction of a new one using part of his small intestine.
In a heartfelt press conference, Sanders opened up about the gravity of his diagnosis, which was delivered in April. “When they told me it was cancer, I prepared for the worst,” he said. “I even wrote my will the night before surgery.” The operation, performed by a specialist team in Colorado, was ultimately a success, and Sanders has since been cleared of the disease.
The former NFL and MLB star has endured a tumultuous few years medically, undergoing more than a dozen surgeries since 2021—including the amputation of two toes due to blood clots. Still, his most recent battle, he admitted, was the most serious yet.
Karrueche Tran Offers Support Through a Private Crisis
Among those by Sanders’ side during this harrowing chapter was actress and model Karrueche Tran, 37. Tran was featured prominently in a new YouTube documentary, “For Your Glory (Part 1): Coach Prime Bladder Removal Surgery,” filmed by Sanders’ son. The video shows Tran tearfully explaining Sanders’ diagnosis and walking with him as he’s wheeled into the operating room. She is seen holding his hand and providing words of encouragement in some of the video’s most emotional moments.
The footage has sparked speculation about the nature of their relationship. While neither party has confirmed whether they are romantically involved, their bond appears to be deeply personal. Viewers were quick to note Tran’s visible concern and presence throughout Sanders’ recovery journey.
Despite the media interest, both Sanders and Tran have chosen to remain silent on the rumors, allowing the focus to remain on his health and recovery.
A Message of Resilience and Gratitude
Sanders credited his faith, medical team, and early detection for saving his life. “If we hadn’t caught this early, I might not be here,” he said. He urged men—particularly Black men—to prioritize regular checkups and health screenings.
Now cancer-free, Sanders is gradually returning to his coaching duties and preparing for the Buffaloes’ season opener against Georgia Tech on August 29. Though he acknowledged some adjustments—such as using a portable bathroom due to his reconstructed bladder—he remains optimistic and focused on the future.
“I’m not just alive—I’m back,” Sanders declared. “God’s not done with me yet.”
Looking Ahead
With renewed health, Sanders plans to lead Colorado into a pivotal football season. As speculation around his personal life continues, his journey serves as a reminder of the power of early diagnosis, unwavering support, and resilience in the face of life’s most difficult trials.
For now, “Coach Prime” is simply grateful to still be standing—and walking back onto the field with purpose.
