Chris Brown Released on $6.7 Million Bail in UK Assault Case, Tour to Proceed

A London court granted Chris Brown bail after being charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm in an alleged unprovoked attack on music producer Abraham Diaw at a nightclub in 2023.

The 36-year-old American R&B artist secured his release by agreeing to a £5 million ($6.7 million) bail payment, allowing him to proceed with his upcoming “Breezy Bowl XX” world tour, which begins on June 8 in the Netherlands.

Brown, who was arrested in Manchester last week during his return to the UK, was initially denied bail but later granted it under the conditions that he pay $5.4 million upfront and an additional $1.3 million within seven days. He must also surrender his passport, except for tour-related travel.

The alleged assault occurred in February 2023 at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London. According to prosecutors, Brown is accused of attacking music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle, then punching and kicking him. The incident was allegedly captured on surveillance footage.

Another American musician, Omololu Akinlolu, known as “Hoody Baby” and a friend of Brown, was also charged in the case. Neither individual has entered a plea, and both must appear in court again on June 20.

The bail decision enables Brown to continue with his scheduled world tour, starting June 8 in Amsterdam, despite the pending legal proceedings. If he had remained in custody, he would have missed the opening shows of the tour. Brown made the announcement on his social media pages.

The shows in Manchester, where Brown was arrested, are all sold out. It seems like someone loves him there.

Brown, a prominent figure in R&B since 2005, has won two Grammy Awards for Best R&B Album, including one earlier this year for “11:11 (Deluxe).”

The legal proceedings continue, with the next court appearance scheduled for June 20 at Southwark Crown Court.
