Chico Debarge’s Son Dontae Anderson-Debarge Reportedly Murdered, Police Says He Was Homeless
Chico DeBarge’s son Dontae Anderson-Debarge has been reportedly stabbed and killed in Los Angeles on Thursday. Donte’ was brutally murdered in the Van Nuys area of Los Angeles, according to police.
Police said they found a 35-year old man stabbed and dying on the street on Thursday. Officers claim that they administered CPR on the victim but he died on the scene as reported by MTO.
At first, officers did not reveal the identity of the man, but they described him as a “transient”, or “homeless” person.
The stabbing victim is believed to be Dontae Anderson DeBarge, son of Chico DeBarge from the legendary 1980s music family — DeBarge.
DeBarge is responsible for many hits back in the days, such as “Rhythm of the Night,” “I Like It,” “All This Love,” and “Love Me In A Special Way,” and “Time Will Reveal.”
Unfortunately drugs, played a part in the ending of the group’s career — but a few of the members, including Chico, embarked on solo projects.

Chico — real name Jonathan Arthur “Chico” DeBarge — who is the youngest member of the DeBarge family, also battled with substance abuse. He was arrested November 2019 for possession of meth.
He was also arrested back in 2007 but eventually went to rehab. Chico admitted to addictions to heroin, cocaine and prescription medication and based his album, aptly titled “Addiction”, on his drug usage.
Chico has 5 children, including Dontae.
Dontae’s half-sister Destiny Anderson, went to Facebook to express heartbreak over the loss.
Other family and friends posted tributes as well.
So far police have no leads on who stabbed Dontae, but they are actively investigating the case.
