Cardi B Paying Funeral Costs For Victims Of Bronx Fire

The award-winning rapper, who grew up in Bronx, NY, will take care of funeral expenses for all 17 victims. The generous announcement was made through a press release.
A tragic fire occurred on Jan. 9 that claimed the lives of 17 people–including children. It was originally reported that 19 passed away, but that number was corrected. A press release revealed that the fire was caused by a faulty space heater.
The victims were eight children and nine adults, all of who were a part of a tight-knit community of African immigrants. Nearly all the victims were Gambian.

Cardi B is working with the Mayor’s Fund’s Bronx Fire Relief Fund to help victims’ families, and will also cover repatriation expenses, as some victims will be buried in the Gambia, a country in West Africa.
“I cannot begin to imagine the pain and anguish that the families of the victims are experiencing, but I hope that not having to worry about the costs associated with burying their loved ones will help as they move forward and heal,” Cardi said in a statement, per Wednesday’s release.
She added, “I send my prayers and condolences to everyone affected by this horrific tragedy.”
