Brothers and sisters, today, I come before you to declare a state of spiritual warfare. The wrongful, untimely death of Atatiana Jefferson – another young person robbed of their destiny – is more evidence that humanity has reached a new level of unseen crisis that calls for a new level of spiritual measures. While it is heartening and commendable to know that the wheels of justice didn’t detour our communities and this time it has resulted in the arrest of Ex Fort Worth Police Officer, Aaron Dean, who has just been handcuffed, arrested and charged with the murder of #AtatianaJefferson, there still lies before both families the heartbreaking rehashing of this totally avoidable tragedy. And, let us remember that justice still lies before us. And, to attain it, all the facts must be presented unedited in a court of law! Let us pray for the comforting presence of Christ to bring great grace to those who mourn the loss of yet another untimely death. Let us pray that petty politics doesn’t terminate true justice. Pray that ambition and self-aggrandizement don’t rule over honesty, fairness, and just verdicts. Let us pray for the heavy cross that competent and well-trained police officers already carry is not further exacerbated by them being unfairly lumped in similar categories with the lesser trained, incompetent, or power-driven ones who wear the same uniform but not the same integrity. Let us pray that ALL Americans can one day feel safe in their own homes, relaxed in their churches, and comfortable in their shopping again. And, let us pray that our natural propensity to be outraged will be directed with laser-like precision to electing leadership that recognizes social justice is as vital to our unity as the thread that holds our multicolored flag together! Let us unite in fervent prayer for the healing of a wounded family, a hurting church, a hemorrhaging community, and a divided nation.
