A family in Sevierville, Tennessee, is grieving the heartbreaking loss of a 21-month-old girl who died after being struck by a vehicle at a local pumpkin patch.
Nyxailia Hinton died Tuesday, October 27, following the incident, which occurred while she was visiting the pumpkin patch with a babysitter.
According to reports, the toddler reportedly fell before being struck by a vehicle at the location on Happy Hollow Lane in Sevierville. Emergency responders from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies responded to the scene.
Following the incident, Nyxailia was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was admitted to the intensive care unit. According to a GoFundMe established to help with funeral expenses, the little girl suffered a cracked skull and cracked ribs and required a blood transfusion.
Despite medical efforts, Nyxailia died shortly after midnight Tuesday.
Her mother, Peandra Hinton, remembered her daughter as a joyful little girl whose personality could brighten anyone’s day.
“She just lit up the room,” Hinton told WVLT. “If you were having a bad day, you see Zayla, she’s gonna turn it all around.”
Nyxailia’s father also expressed the family’s desire for accountability following the devastating loss.
“We want justice for her,” he said, emphasizing the pain the tragedy has brought to their family. He also reflected on the heartbreaking reality that his daughter had not even reached 22 months old.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist Peandra Hinton with funeral expenses and support her household as she navigates life after the devastating loss. According to The Independent, the fundraiser had collected more than $7,000 toward its $12,000 goal as of October 30.
The circumstances surrounding the incident have left the family seeking answers as they mourn the loss of their little girl.
