‘Forever 13’: Family Mourns Andrea Eguia, Teen Killed in Indianapolis Apartment Shooting

The family of 13-year-old Andrea Eguia is mourning the heartbreaking loss of a young girl whose life was cut short in a shooting on Indianapolis’ northeast side. Her loved ones say she was at the wrong place at the wrong time when she was fatally shot at an unfamiliar apartment complex.

According to reports from WTHR, Andrea was found with gunshot wounds inside an apartment at the Georgetown Apartments in the 3600 block of Bunker Hill Drive during the early morning hours of Saturday, October 24, 2026. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Andrea’s mother, Mollie Wingard, described her daughter as a joyful young girl who brought light into every room she entered. The devastating news has left the family struggling to understand how a night away from home ended in such a tragic loss.

Wingard said she had gone to sleep after finishing work and did not know Andrea had left the house with her cousin. She learned that her daughter had been shot when she received a phone call informing her of the tragedy.

Andrea’s aunt, Marina Bontempo, also spoke about the loss, remembering her niece affectionately as “Pooders.” She emphasized that Andrea was surrounded by family members who loved and supported her throughout her life.

The family had moved from Fort Wayne to Indianapolis less than a year earlier. According to reports, the move was intended in part to help protect the family’s children. Now, Andrea’s loved ones are left grieving a loss they never imagined they would experience.

Investigation Continues

Andrea’s death has also raised concerns about gun violence involving young people. Reports indicate that police had responded to the Georgetown Apartments on previous occasions, including a call involving gunfire earlier in October. However, those earlier incidents do not establish a connection to Andrea’s death.

As of the latest reports, authorities had not publicly identified a suspect or disclosed a motive for the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting have left Andrea’s family searching for answers.

Her aunt also stressed that responsibility belongs to the person who pulled the trigger, not simply the location where the tragedy occurred. The family hopes Andrea’s story will encourage greater conversations about gun safety, accountability and protecting children from violence.

Remembering Andrea

At just 13 years old, Andrea had so much life ahead of her. Her family remembers her as a joyful girl with a bright future and a talent for basketball. Now, instead of watching her grow up and pursue her dreams, they must find a way to navigate life without her.

Her loved ones are determined to keep her memory alive as they grieve the loss of a daughter, niece and cherished family member.

Andrea’s story is a painful reminder of how quickly gun violence can change a family forever. For those who loved her, she will always be remembered as “Forever 13.”

Y’all Know What extends heartfelt condolences to Andrea Eguia’s family and loved ones during this devastating time.
