Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been placed on injured reserve after being diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in his left calf, sidelining the star quarterback for at least four games as he undergoes further evaluation and treatment.
The Eagles announced the roster move on Saturday, October 17, following consultations with medical professionals regarding Hurts’ condition. According to reports from “TMZ” and other outlets, there is no confirmed timetable for his return.
The health concern initially surfaced after Hurts suffered a calf injury during Philadelphia’s October 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. According to the Eagles, Hurts sought treatment after practice on October 8, explaining that he had been struck in the calf by an opposing player’s cleat during the game.
An ultrasound performed on October 10 revealed a superficial blood clot. After reviewing the results, medical professionals cleared Hurts to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on October 11, while recommending a follow-up ultrasound after the game.
However, a subsequent ultrasound on Wednesday, October 14, revealed movement in the clot. The Eagles subsequently ruled Hurts out for their upcoming game against the Carolina Panthers and continued evaluating the appropriate course of treatment. The team later placed him on injured reserve.
Under NFL rules, players placed on injured reserve must miss at least four games before becoming eligible to return. With Philadelphia’s Week 10 bye approaching, Hurts could potentially return for the team’s Week 11 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers on November 22, although his actual return will depend on his medical progress and clearance to play.

In Hurts’ absence, backup quarterback Tanner McKee is expected to take over the starting role, while the Eagles adjust their offense during a challenging stretch of the season.
Through five games, Hurts had recorded 933 passing yards, eight touchdown passes and three interceptions. Philadelphia entered the weekend with a 2-3 record, adding further pressure to a team working to regain its footing.
The 28-year-old quarterback has become a central figure in Philadelphia’s offense, making his health a significant concern for the organization and its fans.
For now, the Eagles are prioritizing Hurts’ recovery, and the team has not announced a definitive date for his return.
