Joe Jackson’s life, legacy and role in shaping one of music’s most famous families will be explored in a new docuseries coming to BLK PRIME.
The upcoming original series, titled “The Manager, The Mythology, The Legend,” is being developed in collaboration with Joe Jackson’s son, Marlon Jackson, who will narrate the project and offer his personal perspective on his father and the Jackson family’s history.
According to reports, the first season is planned as an eight-episode series, with BLK PRIME committing to multiple seasons. The docuseries is expected to examine Joe Jackson’s early life, ambitions, family relationships and his role in guiding the careers of his children as the Jackson 5 rose from Gary, Indiana, to international fame.
Joe Jackson played a major role in the development of the Jackson 5, helping manage the careers of Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael. The group went on to become one of the most successful acts of its era, while the Jackson family later expanded its entertainment legacy through artists including Janet Jackson.
The series is also expected to revisit the Jackson 5’s relationship with Motown, the pressures surrounding the family’s rise to fame and the personal dynamics behind the creation of the Jackson family’s musical dynasty.
Joe Jackson’s legacy has remained the subject of significant public discussion. Several of his children made allegations of physical and emotional abuse over the years, while Joe acknowledged using strict discipline and disputed some of the allegations. The new project is expected to explore both the accomplishments and challenges associated with his life and legacy.
Marlon Jackson has described the series as an opportunity to provide a more personal portrait of the father he and his siblings knew.
“The Manager, The Mythology, The Legend” is currently in development and is expected to stream exclusively on BLK PRIME. A premiere date has not yet been announced, with additional production and casting details expected to be released in the coming months.
