A major family dispute involving the estate of Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla has now moved into the courtroom.
Selena’s brother, A.B. Quintanilla III, has officially filed a lawsuit against his sister, Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga, accusing her of withholding his share of profits connected to Selena’s estate and seeking financial records dating back roughly a decade.
The 14-page lawsuit was filed in Nueces County, Texas, on September 10, according to court records and local reporting. A.B. is seeking an accounting of the estate’s finances, recognition of his alleged rights as a beneficiary and monetary relief exceeding $1 million.
The lawsuit names Suzette and Q Productions Inc., the company founded by the siblings’ late father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., as defendants.
What Is A.B. Alleging?
According to the lawsuit, A.B. claims he was entitled to a 25% share of profits under an agreement established following Selena’s death in 1995.
A.B. alleges that Suzette took over control of Q Productions around 2016 after their father delegated CEO responsibilities to her. He claims that although Abraham remained publicly associated with control of the company until his death, Suzette was effectively managing its operations.
A.B. further alleges that he discovered in spring 2025 that he had allegedly not been receiving what he believes was his rightful share of profits.
The lawsuit accuses the defendants of breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty and alleges that information about the company’s finances was not properly disclosed to him.
A.B. is asking the court for a detailed accounting covering the period from January 1, 2016, through the present. That accounting would include revenue, royalties, profits and expenses connected to Selena’s estate, as well as a calculation of what he claims he was owed.
The lawsuit does not specify a precise amount of damages, although it seeks monetary relief exceeding $1 million.
Suzette Has Denied the Allegations
The legal battle follows a very public family dispute that began playing out on social media earlier this month.
Before the lawsuit was formally filed, A.B. publicly announced that legal action involving his sister and their late father was underway. At the time, Suzette and their mother, Marcella Quintanilla, said Suzette had not been served with a lawsuit and challenged A.B. to provide evidence supporting his accusations.
The family members have offered sharply different accounts of what has happened behind the scenes.
Suzette and Marcella have denied accusations that Suzette stole, misappropriated or improperly took money or property belonging to A.B., Selena’s estate or other family members.
