The music community across Texas is mourning the heartbreaking and unexpected loss of an extraordinary young talent. Michael Rigsby, a beloved musician with deep roots in both the Texarkana and Dallas areas, has passed away at the age of 26.
Mike Rigsby, a resident of Frisco, was reported missing on the evening of June 22nd. Tragically, his body was found the following morning, June 23rd, around 9 a.m., in the 8600 block of Hickory Street in Frisco. Irving Police received the initial missing person report around 8 p.m. the night before. The Frisco Police Department is leading the investigation into his death, with assistance from Irving authorities.
Mike was a gifted organist and a dedicated member of The Bridge Frisco—formerly known as The Potter’s House of North Dallas, a campus of the prominent Potter’s House megachurch.
The church, pastored by Sheryl Brady, shared a moving tribute online:
“Mike was a faithful and steady presence in our band, whose passion for music and worship resonated through every note he played. His contribution to our sacred sound will be profoundly missed.”
The news of his disappearance quickly spread on social media, prompting widespread concern. Michael’s mother shared that he was last seen at 3:45 a.m. in Irving, and his final message—sent at 5:19 a.m.—said he was home lying down. After that, all communication ceased.
A close friend posted:
“I was told he didn’t show up for church this morning. He plays at The Potter’s House—and he never misses church.”
Tributes have poured in from across the state, celebrating not just his talent, but the gentle spirit and humility he carried.
“Texarkana, we have lost one of our great musicians, Minister of Music Michael Rigsby,” one message read. “Michael was one of the most humble young musicians. The chords he played were music to the soul.”
Another friend reflected on his early days:
“For those of us who grew up in and around Texarkana and were part of the local music scene, we saw this kid learning to play from his father. We knew way back then he was going to be something special.”
KTAL News in Texarkana also noted Michael’s longstanding musical legacy in the community, highlighting that he began playing instruments in church as a child. According to his social media post, he has worked with several artists, including Jennifer Hudson, New Edition, Justin Timberlake, Ari Lennox, and Dave Holister, among others.
The Bridge Frisco also posted:
“We are saddened to share the unexpected passing of Michael Rigsby (@_mik3music), a faithful and consistent part of our band. His presence behind the keys was part of the sound that filled our sanctuary and helped create space for worship each week. Our church has supported his family during this time of searching for answers, and we ask that you continue to lift them—and all who were connected to him—in your prayers. He will be deeply missed.”
To every musician, please know that you are deeply loved and genuinely appreciated. You are more than your gift. Prayers and love to Michael’s family, friends, and everyone impacted by this profound loss. Rigsby’s death is still under investigation. We’ll provide updates as the news becomes available to us.
