Mary J. Blige Sued for $5 Million by Former Friend and Stylist Misa Hylton

Mary J. Blige is facing a $5 million lawsuit filed by her longtime friend and former stylist, Misa Hylton, who alleges that the R&B icon interfered with a management agreement involving rapper Vado, leading to significant financial and professional damages.

Allegations of Interference and Career Sabotage

According to court documents, Hylton’s management company, M.I.S.A. Management, entered into a contract with Vado in July 2023, entitling the agency to 20% of the rapper’s earnings. Subsequently, in October 2023, Vado signed a distribution deal with Blige’s company, Beautiful Life Productions.

Hylton alleges that Blige used her influence to persuade Vado to sever ties with M.I.S.A. Management. The lawsuit claims that Blige withheld Vado’s completed album and blocked touring opportunities to pressure him into breaking his management contract. Additionally, Hylton asserts that Blige’s security chief, who is also described as her boyfriend in the suit, attempted to convince Vado to sign a new management deal without legal representation, warning him that he would “lose out on opportunities” if he remained with M.I.S.A.

Legal Action and Damages Sought

Hylton is seeking $5 million in damages for breach of contract, emotional distress, and interference with business relationships. The lawsuit also requests an injunction to prevent further disruption from Blige or her company.

A Longstanding Professional Relationship

The lawsuit marks a significant rift between Blige and Hylton, whose professional relationship dates back to the early 1990s. Hylton is credited with crafting Blige’s signature “Ghetto Fabulous” aesthetic, contributing to the singer’s iconic image during her rise to fame.

As of now, neither Mary J. Blige nor her representatives have publicly commented on the lawsuit. The case continues to unfold, drawing attention to the complexities of personal and professional relationships in the entertainment industry.
