Will Smith Locked In For New Action Thriller Supermax

Oscar winner Will Smith is officially locked in for the upcoming action thriller Supermax, and the project is already making major waves in Hollywood.

According to reports, Amazon MGM Studios secured the global rights to the film in a massive $70 million deal. The movie will premiere exclusively on  Prime Video instead of receiving a theatrical release.

The film will be directed by David Gordon Green, best known for directing the recent Halloween trilogy, including Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends.

In Supermax, Smith will reportedly play a character named Rex. The story follows two FBI agents investigating a murder inside the world’s most secure prison. The screenplay was written by David Weil and David J. Rosen.

Production is expected to begin in August, though no official release date has been announced yet. So far, Will Smith is the only confirmed cast member attached to the project.

The actor’s latest box office appearance came in Bad Boys: Ride or Die, the latest installment in the long-running Bad Boys franchise. He also recently made a surprise appearance in the finale of Bel-Air and hosted the National Geographic series Pole to Pole with Will Smith.

Of course, fans still know Smith best for starring in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air before becoming one of Hollywood’s biggest stars with films like Independence Day, Men in Black, Ali, I, Robot, Hitch, The Pursuit of Happyness, Suicide Squad, Aladdin, King Richard, and Emancipation.

Don’t forget — Supermax is coming soon to  Prime Video
