“The Exorcist” Actor Max von Sydow Has Passed Away At 90
Veteran actor Max von Sydow, who is best known for his role in the horror film The Exorcist, died Sunday at the age of 90.
“It is with a broken heart and with infinite sadness that we have the extreme pain of announcing the departure of Max von Sydow (on) March 8, 2020,” his wife Catherine stated to USA TODAY through Max’s agent Jean Diamond.
The Swedish actor will be mostly remembered for his roles in The Exorcist (1973), The Seventh Seal (1957), and Flash Gordon (1980)
Sydow was nominated for two Academy Awards, one for his supporting role in 2011’s Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close and for his leading role in 1987’s Pelle erobreren.
He was also nominated for two Golden Globes (one for his role in “The Exorcist”) and two Emmy Awards, including one for his role as a guest actor on the popular HBO series “Game of Thrones” in 2016.
Sydow also worked on another famous franchise: Star Wars, playing Lor San Tekka in 2015’s “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.”
Sydow leave behind his sons Cedric (50) and Yvan(49) with Catherine. He also shares sons Clas and Henrik from his previous marriage to Christina Olin from 1951–1979.
