Community leaders and family members are calling for justice after a UPS driver was shot and killed in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood, with a $10,000 reward now being offered for information leading to an arrest.
Michael Hunter, 36, was found fatally shot in the head around 12:30 a.m. in the 8000 block of South Hermitage Avenue over the weekend, according to police and family reports.
Authorities say Hunter, a father of three, had been searching for his stolen vehicle shortly before the shooting. Family members said he was speaking with people in the area, trying to gather information, when he was gunned down.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hunter’s death has devastated his loved ones, who described him as a dedicated father, provider, and hardworking man who had been employed with UPS for several years.
“He meant everything to us,” his family said in emotional pleas for justice, urging anyone with information to come forward.
Community leaders in Auburn Gresham have joined the family’s call, announcing a $10,000 reward to help identify and apprehend the person responsible. The reward is intended to encourage witnesses or anyone with knowledge of the shooting to speak up.
The killing has sparked renewed concerns about violence in the South Side neighborhood, as residents and advocates stress the importance of community cooperation in solving crimes.
Chicago police say no suspects are currently in custody, and Area Two detectives are continuing to investigate the fatal shooting.
Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities as the victim’s family continues to seek answers—and justice—in the wake of the tragic loss.
