Oscar-nominated actress Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor is set to make her return to broadcast television in a series regular role for the first time since Quantico, joining the cast of CBS’s upcoming procedural drama Einstein.
Ellis-Taylor will star alongside Matthew Gray Gubler and Melissa Fumero in the new series, which is currently in production and scheduled for the 2026–27 broadcast season. She is also known for her work on the drama series 61st Street.
In Einstein, Ellis-Taylor takes on the role of Captain Frost, a veteran police officer with thousands of hours of field experience. Her character is nearing retirement and counting down the days alongside her longtime partner.
The series centers on Lewis Einstein, portrayed by Gubler, the brilliant but directionless great-grandson of legendary physicist Albert Einstein. Once living a comfortable life as a tenured professor, his reckless behavior lands him in legal trouble, ultimately forcing him to assist Detective Teri, played by Fumero, in solving complex and puzzling cases.
Gubler is best known for his 15-season role as Dr. Spencer Reid on the hit CBS series Criminal Minds. Beyond acting, he has directed episodes of the show, starred in indie films like Suburban Gothic, and voiced Simon in the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise. He is also recognized for his whimsical and imaginative artwork.
Ellis-Taylor continues to build on an acclaimed career. She received an Academy Award nomination for her performance in King Richard and earned Emmy nominations for her roles in When They See Us and Lovecraft Country. Her recent credits include The Color Purple, The Deliverance, and The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel. Known for her versatility, she often portrays strong, complex women in both dramas and biopics.
Originally planned for an earlier debut, CBS delayed Einstein to allow for a longer development window. The series is now expected to be a key addition to the network’s upcoming lineup.
