2-Year-Old Boy Identified After Deadly Shooting During Domestic Dispute in Jacksonville

A tragic shooting in Jacksonville has left a family grieving after a 2-year-old boy was killed during what authorities say began as a domestic dispute between adults at a Westside apartment complex.

The child, identified by family members as A’mahri Robinson, was described as a joyful and loving toddler who brought happiness to those around him. Loved ones told local media he was the “happiest baby,” known for his playful spirit and bright presence.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, officers responded just before midnight on March 23 to the Valencia Way Apartments on Labelle Street, where they found the child suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital but later died from his injuries.

Investigators say the shooting stemmed from an argument between adults inside the home. During the dispute, a gun was fired, striking the toddler. Two other children under the age of 10 were inside the apartment at the time but were not injured.

Initially, police said one of the adults involved fled the scene, prompting a search. Within 24 hours, authorities arrested 21-year-old Steven Dodson Jr. in connection with the case. He now faces multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, child endangerment, and weapons-related offenses.

Family members and friends continue to mourn the loss of A’mahri, remembering him as a loving child who “brought joy to everyone around him.” A fundraiser has been created to help cover funeral expenses as the family copes with the devastating loss.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say additional details may be released as the case develops.
