Zuri Reed Cast as Young Tasha in STARZ’s ‘Power: Origins’

Zuri Reed is the latest addition to the growing cast of the upcoming STARZ prequel series Power: Origins, stepping into the role of a young Tasha St. Patrick, the character famously portrayed by Naturi Naughton in the original Power.

The highly anticipated series will explore the early lives of James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Tommy Egan as they begin their rise through New York City’s drug underworld in the 1990s. The roles of the younger Ghost and Tommy will be played by Spence Moore ll (Creed III, Brilliant Minds) and Charlie Mann (The Watchers, Virdee), respectively.

Reed’s casting introduces another key figure from the original series’ storyline, portraying the younger version of Ghost’s eventual girlfriend and wife, Tasha. Her addition further expands the show’s ensemble as the prequel dives deeper into the formative relationships that shaped the Power Universe.

The cast also includes Mekai Curtis, who will reprise his role as Kanan Stark from Power Book lll: Raising Kanan, continuing the storyline that bridges the earlier prequel series with Power: Origins.

Additional returning and newly announced cast members include Jason Dirden, reprising his Raising Kanan role as Traymont Stinson, and Jennifer Ferrin as Tommy’s mother Kate Egan. Previously announced cast members also include Lizzy DeClement, Lenny Platt, Armani Gabriel, and Everett Osborne.

The recurring cast features a notable lineup including Kelly McCreary as Officer Melanie Rivers, Hill Harper as Detective Burns, Damon Gupton as Detective Glover Archibald, and Tonya Pinkins as Grandma Charlayne, Ghost’s grandmother. Nadia Dajani will reprise her Raising Kanan role as Teresa Boselli, while Dominic Rains is set to recur as Detective Fred Drexel.

Currently, Power: Origins is the only series in active production within the franchise following the conclusion of Power Book ll: Ghost in 2024 and Power Book lV: Force earlier this year after three seasons. Meanwhile, Power Book III: Raising Kanan will conclude with its upcoming fifth and final season, premiering June 12.

The first season of Power: Origins will consist of 18 episodes, marking the largest episode order in the franchise’s history.

The series is showrun and executive produced by Sascha Penn, who co-wrote the pilot with Power creator Courtney A. Kemp. Executive producers also include Curtis Jackson, aka 50 Cent, Mark Canton, Chris Selak, Kevin Fox, and Pete Chatmon, who will also direct. The series is produced by Lionsgate Television for Starz.

Reed has appeared in several television projects, including Law And Order: SVU and National Treasure: Edge Of History,  as well as the film Night Patrol (2025).

As the Power universe continues to evolve, another potential spinoff titled Power: Legacy is reportedly in development, which would reunite Michael Rainey Jr. and Joseph Sikora as Tariq St. Patrick and Tommy Egan.

We can’t wait to see Zuri Reed and the rest of the cast bring the story to life in Power: Origins.

With fresh faces, returning favorites, and the gritty storytelling the Power universe is known for, this new chapter is already shaping up to be a must-watch. 🔥📺
