8-Year-Old Maryland Girl Makes History as Youngest Grammy Winner Ever

In a remarkable milestone for music and youth achievement, 8-year-old Aura V of Charles County, Maryland, has become the youngest individual ever to win a Grammy Award. The elementary school student took home the prestigious honor alongside her father, Fyütch, for their collaborative album Harmony, which won Best Children’s Music Album at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on February 1, 2026.

The win not only marks a personal triumph for the father-daughter duo but also sets a new record in Grammy history. Aura, at just 8 years old, surpassed the previous youngest individual winner, Blue Ivy Carter, who won her Grammy at age 9 in 2021.

“I just want to say thank you,” Aura said in her acceptance speech, expressing surprise and joy at the award. “I love it when people feel happy.”

The album Harmony—released in May 2025 and featuring playful, uplifting songs about family, love, and gratitude—was a labor of love for the Simmons family. Aura’s musical journey began at a young age, first appearing on one of her father’s earlier albums and quickly developing her own passion for singing.

Her father, Harold Simmons II (stage name Fyütch), has long blended music with education and activism, and said the Grammy win with his daughter “is very surreal.” Their album’s themes reflect that mission, resonating with listeners and Grammy voters alike.

The historic achievement comes during Black History Month, adding another layer of significance to the win for the Maryland family. Community members and fans across the region have celebrated Aura’s success, highlighting her accomplishment as an inspiration for young artists everywhere.

Looking ahead, Aura and her father plan to continue their musical pursuits, with performances and community engagements planned throughout the year. For the young star, the Grammy is just the beginning of what many hope will be a bright and enduring career in music.
