5-Year Old Daughter Of Detroit First Responders Dies From Complications of Coronavirus
A 5-year old girl is now the youngest individual from Michigan to die from complications related to coronavirus.
According to Beaumont Hospitals spokesperson, Skylar Herbert succumbed to her illness after a diagnosis weeks ago.
“We are heartbroken that COVID-19 has taken the life of a child. We extend our deepest sympathy to Skylar’s family and all others who have lost a loved one to this virus.”
Skylar’s parents are first responders — her dad, who also tested positive for COVID-19, working as a firefighter and her mom a police officer.
Detroit News reports:
A month ago, 5-year-old Skylar Herbert complained to her parents that she had a bad headache.
On Sunday, after spending two weeks on a ventilator, the Detroit girl died. Skylar had tested positive for COVID-19 in March and later developed a rare form of meningitis and brain swelling.
“We decided to take her off the ventilator today because her improvement had stopped, the doctors told us that it was possible she was brain dead, and we basically just knew she wasn’t coming back to us,” said LaVondria Herbert, Skylar’s mother, on Sunday.
