12-Year-Old Texas Boy Arrested After Fatally Shooting A Sonic Restaurant Employee
A 12-year-old boy has been charged after he shot and killed a Sonic restaurant employee in Keene, Texas on Saturday evening.
According to NBC News, the boy and a 20-year-old, Angel Gomez, went to the Sonic and were acting “disorderly” in the parking lot. Reports say that they were accused of urinating in the parking lot. They were then confronted by Sonic worker Matthew Davis, 32, and the argument escalated and became physical. The juvenile allegedly pulled out a gun and repeatedly fired at Davis. The boy used an AR-style weapon and fired at least six rounds at Davis, according to KTVT.
Reports say after the shooting, the suspects then fled the scene. Davis suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was flown to the hospital but later died during surgery.
Police said that shortly after the shooting, Gomez returned to the crime scene and was arrested on murder charges. They found the juvenile about 15 miles away from the crime scene in Rio Vista and he was taken into custody on murder charges. Additionally, they recovered several firearms when the 12-year-old was taken into custody.
The Sonic remained closed Monday, KTVT reported. A memorial was set up in honor of Davis.
A Go Fund Me was made for Matthew Davis in order to help support his mom and his 10-year-old son.
Sonic said in a statement: “We were saddened to learn about the tragedy involving a franchised team member in Keene, TX. The franchisee is cooperating fully with local authorities as they conduct their investigation.”
