Will Smith, Warner Bros., And Richard Williams’ Productions Sued Over “King Richard” Film

Hollywood star Will Smith is named in a lawsuit along with Warner Brothers, and Richard Williams production companies over the upcoming film King Richard, the biopic based of tennis stars Venus and Serena’s father Richard Williams.

According to Deadline, the suit lays out that the plaintiffs, TW3 Entertainment, and Power Move Multi-Media, allege they purchased rights to Williams’ book, — Black and White: The Way I See It — three years ago from Lesane for $10,000. They are now asking for unspecified damages from the movie and an injunction that would mandate “all profits” for any project using the rights to be put into a trust for their benefit.

King Richard was in production but due to the COVID-19 shutdown, the release date has been pushed back to the end of 2021.
