Doughtry “Doc” Long, Father Of Nia Long And Sommore, Has Passed Away

While the world was mourning the death of NBA star Kobe Bryant, actress Nia Long and comedian Sommore had a heartbreak of their own. Their father Doughtry “Doc” Long, who was a beloved teacher and mentor, has died.

Doc was also a notable poet and author. A cause of death hasn’t been revealed but Nia shared his passing Monday on Instagram.

When Nia was 2-years old, her parents divorced and Nia moved to LA with her mom.

Sommore also paid tribute to her father.

Sommore revealed in a interview years ago that she and her baby sister Nia aren’t really close. “We share the same father but we’re not necessarily sisters,” Sommore explained. She says that she and Nia weren’t raised together.

Although these siblings don’t have a tight sister bond, they still have love for each other and their craft.

  2. If you color him Dad, it is that to you. You don’t have to justify it with anyone. Mine was estranged also, but to me HE was Daddy…we made each other. He made a Child, I made him Dad. RIP to your Dad. God bless you.
